Providing balance in your diet involves an intentional inclusion of different foods in proportion to each other based on the value that each food has to your total goal. For some, food choices might include a specific macronutrient balance. Most health organizations recommend a diet consisting of a balance from Carbohydrate at 55-65%, Protein at 10-15% and Fats at no higher than 30% of total calories. Other programs sometimes recommend that the nutrient balances be altered to a 40: 30: 30% or 75: 15: 10% Carbohydrate: Protein: Fat total calorie percent balance, respectively. Lastly, good nutrition tips and balance refers to choosing healthier foods more often than foods that are less healthy.

Eat well to live a healthy life.

Diet food tips are as follows:

# Avoid eating out. Small servings prove effective, especially while dining out. Choose smaller plates and avoid fatty and high calorie desserts.

# Include low calorie foods.

# Patience and perseverance is essential. When it has taken a lot of time to gain the excess weight, a considerable amount of time is required on losing the same.

# If you opt for a high calorie snack, work for it. Clean the bathroom or the sinks, prior to consumption.

# A tan falsely depicts you to be slightly thinner.

# Sugarless chewing gum helps in curbing your binge eating, during the process of cooking.

# Brushing and flossing your teeth, when you feel hungry, decreases the appetite temporarily.

# Involve a blue colored background, as the color psychologically puts down your appetite. Avoid orange, yellow or red backgrounds, as these bright colors increase the intake.

# Sudden craving for food is decreased by a bath. Sit in a Jacuzzi and enjoy your bath to temporarily postpone your appetite.

# Make your sandwiches bigger, by adding a lot of vegetables, such as tomatoes, sprouts, cucumber, lettuce, peppers and so on. Though the calories are slightly increased, the fat levels fail to rise. Get some healthy tips from healthynutrition.terapad.com

In conclusion, it must be noted that allopathic medicine treats the symptoms rather than the root cause of the disease, which is usually caused by wrong eating habits leading to an accumulation of toxins within the system. Whereas a nutritious diet can rectify underlying causes of diseases and restore one to wholeness of mind and body. Once we realize the connection between a wholesome balanced diet and good health, our food will be our medicine and maintaining good health will be a matter of making the right food choices and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Protein: How Much Do We Need?

Nov. 26th 2008

Do you remember those wonderful colored charts in grade school showing us the importance of eating our meat and drinking our milk so that we would get lots of protein?

The Animal Protein Push

The concept of the “basic four” food groups is heavily promoted by the National Dairy Council, the National Egg Board and the National Livestock and Meat Board. In fact, the largest supplier of “nutritional education” materials for our U.S. schools is the National Dairy Council. But do we really need all of the protein that their agenda pushes?

The “Experts” Disagree

History has shown that many populations have lived in excellent health with 2.5% of their daily calories coming from protein, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The World Health Organization says it should be 4.5%. The Food and Nutrition Board says 6% while the National Research Council claims it should be as high as 8%. Then we have the National Academy of Sciences which recommends 10 to 35% of our daily calories should come from protein. Hmmm, is the picture getting muddy? Why do the numbers keep get higher?

Human milk is 5% protein, so that could be nature’s view point on the issue. During the first year of life, babies grow faster than any other time and their protein needs are the highest. For centuries before modern times and man-made formulas, babies grew solely on their mother’s milk during their first years. Has anyone thought about making that the guide?

The Most Used Standard

These days most of the charts put it at 8 to 9%. How does this compute? The simplest method is to just take your weight and multiply it by .37 and that’s the number of grams of protein to eat each day. An even more important issue here may be where you choose to get those grams of protein.

Check these food comparisons using 100 grams each:

•Beef: 24 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 90 mg Cholesterol
•Chicken: 30 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 84 mg Cholesterol
•Egg: 13.5 g Protein, 15 g Fat, 459 mg Cholesterol
•Lamb: 28 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 89 mg Cholesterol
•Milk-Cow: 3.3 g Protein, 3.6 g Fat, 14.3 mg Cholesterol
•Milk-Goat: 3.5 g Protein, 4.1 g Fat, 11.4 mg Cholesterol
•Soymilk: 2.7 g Protein, 1.9 g Fat, 0 mg Cholesterol
•Tofu: 8 g Protein, 4.5 g Fat, 0 mg Cholesterol

Don’t be fooled that since you’re getting more protein from an equal amount of beef than tofu that beef is the better deal. Anywhere from 50 to 80% of the calories in beef are fat. And then there is the cholesterol issue. Tofu is a low calorie food with less than 5% fat and no cholesterol.

Remember, all legumes, grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds contain protein. It’s not difficult to reach the daily requirements. And you can do it with using high fat, high cholesterol foods.

The Vemma Nutrition Program: Is It Safe For Your Health?

Nov. 23rd 2008

The Vemma nutrition program, is it a requirement to take a supplement like this? Food supplements, nutrition supplements, healthy supplements, antioxidant supplements; call them whatever you will but they are plentiful and plenty of them all over the place. These added supplements give you the nutrition that you may not be getting from eating the fundamental everyday meals that you eat each day. In particular, they are required for those who don’t eat correctly and who want to get the very best nutrition at the same time. It is often suggested that people who are always on the go have a drink of Vemma nutrition each day, so they can easily go about their normal daily activities, with plenty of energy.

Because of the rate at which many of us consume junk food, the best bet is to have something that replaces the nutrients we lack, and supplements are the best option for this. During the day, the body continually gets rid of all the bad components – these could be dead cells, or the combating of ailments- and during this period, there are certain things the body needs to continually be in optimum shape. One of these required things is the extra nutrients provided in nutrition supplements.

You know, life has never been easier and getting as healthy as possible is far more possible now than it ever was. Lately it is easier for you to expend probably around $2 a day on improving your immune system. In the past, this was not available and therefore, many people died as a result of simple sicknesses and conditions like scurvy, which is very easily prevented or healed by frequently taking any Vitamin C rich fruit or supplement.

One question that has been bandied around for quite a while now, is whether it is sensible that parents expose their children to nutrition supplements at a very young age? As laid-back as this may sound, it is a question loaded with countless meaning. How is this? A lot of parents would tell you that the reason they pose such questions is to make sure that there are no possible side effects of the supplements on their children. However, the answer to the question really is that it is wise that children get the highest amount of nutrition possible by all principles. In fact, the multivitamins that parents give their children provides them with more nutrition and hence, better health.

For those individuals who do a lot physical fitness and training, it is of tremendous importance that nutrition supplements be part of their daily routine. Fitness experts continually emphasize the advice that trace minerals like boron, macro minerals like magnesium, should never be far from anyone experiencing any form of physical fitness program. Before picking up a supplement however, it is always better to consult with your physician just to be certain that you are getting what you need . Go to the following page for more information about The Vemma nutrition program.

Stay Healthy At Home And Reduce Your Health Insurance Costs

Oct. 18th 2008

With the rising cost of healthcare in our country, many Americans are looking to stay healthy at home, all on their own, rather than constantly using their employer health insurance. After all, even the best Texas health insurance plans don’t cover everything.
Here are some basic tips for keeping yourself healthy at home.

Follow the Food Guide Pyramid
When I was a kid, the big push was to ensure you got a certain number of servings of each food group per day. There were five main food groups up until Bart Simpson so eloquently added the “Butterfinger Group.”
Either way, this food pyramid while nothing new is still very sound in its philosophy. It is a simple to follow method that will ensure you get enough vital nutrients from all areas of the food web. If you follow the food pyramid, you are giving yourself a leg up on general health and nutrition.

Stay Fit and in Shape
Yes, I know you’ve heard it before, but keeping fit is essential to overall good health. But when we talk about fitness, it is not strictly confined to your weight. Healthy lung and cardiovascular function is a big part of your overall fitness too. I have read that you should keep perform cardio exercises at least 3 times per week, with one of those workouts bringing you to a good sweat. That means you need to get on your horse and get your heart pumping.

Reduce Your Stress Level
Stress can be attributed to just about any health problem if you really want to break it down. It’s not just the small annoyances it causes like headache and backache, it is the more serious conditions with your digestive system that can send you running to the doctor. If you can find a way to control or reduce your stress levels, you are sure to feel better and be healthier. One of the best ways to reduce stress is to workout and stay fit! You’d be surprised how a good workout can clear your mind and take away anxiety.

Take a Vacation
The ultimate in relaxation has to come when you are on vacation. Most folks don’t realize the rejuvenating effects a little time away can have. Take a vacation that is far away from your everyday life. While you are there, get a massage, walk on a beach, whatever allows you to wind down and relax. People underestimate the health value associated with relaxing and gearing down your life.

I know these tips are not anything earth shattering as far as new information. The truth is they are as simple but important. Health insurance plans don’t teach you to make good decisions everyday at home, so don’t overlook the simple things when you are trying to stay healthy. It just might save you some money, and a few trips to the doctor.

What Is The Best Way To Use Acai Fruit Juice

Oct. 17th 2008

The Acai fruit is truly one of the greatest gifts the Amazon rain forest has ever given us. Not only is it one of the best foods for you on earth, but along with all those benefits you get a food that tastes amazing. It’s really unfair to the rest of the food population. Usually health food tastes terrible and delicious food is bad for you, but Acai breaks that mold.

Acai fruit juice is one of the highest sources of antioxidants available in any fruit. It also is a great source of protein, fiber, and omega fatty acids. It is a great drink to have in the morning because it gives you a boost of energy that is as strong as, and longer lasting than coffee or any of those sugar filled energy drinks.

One great way to enjoy Acai is the Acai Brazilian bowl. This is a tradition way to enjoy this great fruit. To make this all you have to do is put some Acai berry juice, yogurt, and a banana in your blender. When it’s blended transfer it into a bowl and top with sliced banana, and organic granola. This is perfect for a quick breakfast or a refreshing afternoon snack.

My personal favorite way to use Acai berry juice is in smoothies. If you already have a favorite smoothie recipe you can add in some Acai berry juice and get all the amazing benefits of Acai while adding a great tasting twist. If you don’t already have a favorite smoothie try out this recipe for a super antioxidant filled energy boost.

5-8 Ice Cubes
½ Cup Plain Yogurt
½ Cup Frozen Blue Berries
½ Cup Frozen Strawberries
1 serving Acai fruit juice
1 Handful of Organic Goji Berries

Throw all the ingredients in a blender, blend on liquefy, and then enjoy this great smoothie.

If you are in a big rush you can always just consume Acai berry juice the simplest way possible; by itself. Since the juice tastes like a marriage of chocolate and berries it stands alone as the greatest tasting fruit juice in the world.

Whatever way you decide to get your daily intake of Acai, the most important thing is that you drink it on a regular basis. It is a simple way to get a large dose of vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants. Acai berry juice can help you look and feel younger, lower bad cholesterol, and give you the energy you need to stay focused during the day. An Acai serving a day keeps the doctor away should be your new mantra. If you do that your body and taste buds will be thanking you.

Are You Getting Enough Vitamins And Minerals?

Oct. 10th 2008

How do you know if you have all you need even though you hear a lot about vitamins and minerals? You probably are, for the most part. There are times when we don’t however, and this lead to a very interesting theory. My mom offered me a book she read a long time ago, and it stated that those who do not get enough vitamins and minerals each day might get sick easier and also might walk around with strange cravings.

After I read the book, it made me think about a teacher I had in seventh grade. This guy was your classic teacher, though he was not very animated. Many times he would eat the chalk he had in the class room. I never considered there had to be a reason why he did it even though we thought it was funny at the time. May be it had something to do with the quantity of vitamins and minerals in his diet? I am not sure, but this book told me it was. It’s a fascinating theory. But would it makes us eat chalk if our body craves for vitamins and minerals it is not getting?

So this might be the explanation why you demand certain foods. That’s definitely not as shocking as eat chalk, but this could explain odd cravings, especially during pregnancy. Expecting women need more vitamins and minerals than anyone else, and they must to be sure they get them. If they are not getting the vitamins and minerals for themselves as well as what they need for their growing baby, does this drive them to ask for Italian dressing and hotdogs in the middle of the night? I don’t know.

The Pros And Cons Of Giving Up Meat For Vegetarian

Sep. 30th 2008

Right now is a great time to start considering a vegetarian lifestyle. There are environmental and health issues which you need to take into consideration if you are still part of the meat-eating population.

Vegetarians and vegans whose diet consists mostly of plant-based food make up a smaller percentage of the population. But what is it about meat that turns them away from it?

Does it have something to do with the negative affects of a meat-based diet on the health? Is it the way the animals are treated? For you to make an informed decision, you should first learn about the pros and cons of these two types of diets: meat-based and vegetarian based.

A Look at the Vegetarian Based Diet

As a vegetarian, your diet will contain a lower level of saturated fats, and a higher amount of fiber and antioxidants. More importantly, your risk of developing chronic and lifestyle-related diseases is reduced.

The downside of having a vegetarian diet is that you will not have a primary source of high-quality protein. You may also develop a deficiency in Omega-3 fatty acids, iron, vitamin B12, zinc, iodine, calcium and selenium.

To counteract this, vegetarians should always have a well-planned meal to ensure that they are getting all the nutrients their body needs to function properly. A growing solution to combat these possible deviancies is the addition of soy foods. Soy is high in protein and contains many nutrients.

Some Downfalls of a Meat-Based Diet

It’s a common belief that both white and red meat is a great source of high-quality proteins. Red meat, in particular, contains the essential amino acids that the body needs. Iron, phosphorus and vitamin B12 are the other essential nutrients that you will be lacking if you decide to take on a mostly plant-based diet.

These are the common problems that you will encounter with a meat-based diet:
* Meat-based diets are generally high in fat.
* If you eat big, juicy burgers, for example, the quality of the beef that you are consuming may not be desirable for your health.
* Meat raises your cholesterol levels.
* You are more prone to cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure with a meat-based diet.
* Gout, arthritis and degenerative diseases are some of the health risks that meat-eaters may suffer, to which vegetarians are not usually subject.

Your Decision: Meat-Based Diet or Vegetarian-Based Diet

When all is said and done, it is still a matter of personal preference. If you think you can work through the problems of a meat-based diet and not give it up, then you can certainly do so. Making an informed decision is the key to making any type of diet work to the maximum benefit of your health.
