One of the worst things about being fat is that you are always on a diet. Many end up in a never ending battle of yo-yo dieting that makes them feel miserable. If I put the time into my schedule, I would work out. I set some goals for me to reach and was determined not to quit until I reached the goals.

I began to see the results. My waistline was getting noticeably smaller and I was able to fit into my clothes easier. The new foods that I was eating tasted good and I enjoyed getting outside and exercising. Instead of hanging out at the bar or local pizza place, I met some great people at a fitness club. Instead of starting a diet that would get rid of some weight for a short time, I was doing things that got rid of the weight and were keeping it off. I thought that I would give it the old college try. After 22-years and 4 months of German Translator experience that has introduced me to a wide variety of cultures, I know that visual communication is just as critical as non-visual communication. I came to the conclusion that by selecting the right words, using the right vocabulary and altering my vocal tone and expressions that I could make people feel more relaxed. Another discovery that I have made is that all cultures have a set words and expressions that can create a reaction. In my opinion, I believe this warranted more research. Every day we encounter workers or even clients or potential clients who are easier than others. Sometime I ponder over why a person who I have just had a discussion with seems extremely interesting but my friends find the person lackluster. You must agree that a biological action must be taking place that we are yet to understand.

It was at this point in my quest that I came across the early work of Drs. Richard Bandler and John Grinder on Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Believe it or not, as a translation worker, I had already been performing many of the activities instinctively that these doctors were endorsing in their research. Among a fountain of new insights, they revealed that everyone has a “favorite sense.” When you find that certain something, you can target that person’s weakness. The purpose of my study was becoming more finely tuned. With this in mind, I paused my work in the field of Medical Translation and was determined to devote my time to studying social behavior. Six months after leaving Texas, I had begun a program to earn an advanced degree in Neural Programming in order to advance my studies. I studied Irresistible Language Patterns in the United States, Canada and England, and delved into everything to do with the brain’s part in human connectivity. In recent years, I have completed a number of different books that are required reading in several translation studies courses that are offered by leading universities.
