It seems like doctors are always handing out the same information about bacterial vaginosis. Wear cotton underwear, don’t douche, wipe front to back, etc. This is a condescending stance for doctors to take, because it implies that the treatments would work if women just followed direction, instead of admitting that they suffer from chronic bacterial vaginosis.

One of the most disturbing things that I found was the statement, over and over again, that only women who have had multiple sexual partners were at risk for bacterial vaginosis. Some even claim that women who abstain only contract BV very rarely. This is just another one of the road blocks that women encounter when trying to cure their bacterial vaginosis, and adds to their shame and embarrassment.
Doctors also keep insisting that antibiotics are the cure for bacterial vaginosis. This treatment works for some bacterial vaginosis sufferers, but more often than not, the antibiotics don’t provide a cure. And if it didn’t work the first time, there is nothing to be gained by prescribing multiple courses; obviously these women have a resistant strain of bacterial vaginosis that will not be cured by antibiotics, no matter how many times it is tried.
Doctors need to realize that if one course of treatment won’t work, it’s time to start looking at other thing in order to finally achieve a cure. You’d be hard-pressed to find another disease where so many sufferers, for whom the prescribed course of action is insufficient, patients are ignored and no changes to treatment made.
If you really want to find a cure, then you need to find out what really causes bacterial vaginosis. ’Bad’ bacteria, the kind that cause bacterial vaginosis, thrive when the PH level in the vagina is upset.
A common natural cure for BV is taking probiotic supplements. Probiotics are live bacteria, either taken in capsules or found in some kinds of yogurts, that can help replenish the ‘good’ bacteria found in the vagina. The more ‘good’ bacteria you have, the harder it is for the ‘bad’ bacteria to take over.
For those who cannot be cured either by antibiotics or probiotics, a more intensive alternative therapy is needed. I had to find a combination of different things, it took a while, but I finally did – check out my review “Bacterial Vaginosis Relief” to see what finally cured me once and for all.
Bacterial vaginosis, while largely dismissed as unimportant by the medical community, is a serious affliction that can seriously affect a woman’s self-esteem and quality of life. Considering there are so many women suffering from this, the medical community needs to be aware of other treatments out there so that we can cured more quickly.
